Water & civic infrastructure

Krishna river water supply scheme for Ichalkaranji

Context
A city of nearly three lakh people, with a dense industrial load, has long sought a permanent and adequate source of drinking water.
Objective
A supply scheme drawing from the Krishna river at Juné–Danwad, designed against the city’s projected requirement up to 2051.
Where it stands
Announced publicly by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a farmers’ rally on 21 June 2026. Rahul Awade, with the Hatkanangle Member of Parliament, had placed the proposal before the state government in Mumbai and met the Chief Minister two days earlier; Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde indicated the state would provide the finance required.

Municipal finance

GST reimbursement restored to the Municipal Corporation

Context
When Ichalkaranji was upgraded from a municipal council to a corporation in 2022, it did not appear on the state’s 2017 list for GST reimbursement. A reported backlog of about ₹1,200 crore accumulated, holding up pending works.
Objective
To restore the reimbursement stream that funds the corporation’s development works and future projects.
Where it stands
Following sustained follow-up with the state government, the Maharashtra cabinet approved the distribution of ₹20.16 crore covering April and May 2026, with a reported ₹10.8 crore per month thereafter.

Public services & justice infrastructure

Land transfer approved for the Ichalkaranji judicial complex

Context
The municipal corporation had reserved plots for a judicial complex, but the transfer of that land to the District and Sessions Court required administrative approval before construction could be taken up.
Objective
To clear the way for a court complex in Ichalkaranji, so that litigants from the city and the surrounding taluka are heard closer to home.
Where it stands
Administrative approval of ₹15,33,60,949 — about ₹15.33 crore — issued by the Maharashtra Department of Law and Judiciary, enabling the transfer.

Urban governance

First general election to the Ichalkaranji Municipal Corporation

Context
The city had been administered without an elected corporation council since the 2022 upgrade, with civic decisions taken by an administrator.
Objective
To seat an elected council so that the corporation could take its own decisions on the city’s development works.
Where it stands
Counting was held on 16 January 2026. Rahul Awade led the Mahayuti campaign in the city as its sitting MLA; the Bharatiya Janata Party was reported as the single largest party with 43 seats.

Industry & trade representation

Governing Council, Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture

Context
MACCIA is the apex chamber for trade, industry and agriculture in Maharashtra. Its Governing Council carries the interests of member industries into state policy discussion.
Objective
Continued representation for the power-loom and processing economy of Ichalkaranji and the surrounding belt within a statewide industry body.
Where it stands
Re-elected unopposed to the Governing Council — a second term in that body — when the newly constituted board was seated.
